About Sophie:

Hi, everyone! My name is Sophie Rickless, and I’m a rising junior studying English here as a sophomore-admit to the UHP. My favorite area of study is British literature, so if anyone ever wants to talk about Brave New World, Pride and Prejudice, Blazing World, or Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for a few minutes (or hours), I am always game. I love that in the UHP I get to take classes with my favorite professors from my major, often with fewer people than a typical major course. In fact, thanks to my professors’ help and encouragement, I will be studying at Oxford’s Centre For Medieval & Renaissance Studies this fall! Here in DC, though, my favorite thing to do is to save up all of my money and then blow it on “cheap seats” for the amazing plays at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Activism is also really important to me, and most recently (as of April 2018), I participated in DC’s March for Our Lives. On campus, this year I will be the Co-Editor in Chief of GW’s literary magazine, Wooden Teeth, which I highly recommend for anyone who loves spending time with other awesome literature or art-obsessed people! And my three roommates, who I’ve lived with for two years now, are all from China–so if you’d like to eat the best food of your entire life, come see me for restaurant recommendations. Finally, I’m from San Diego, which doesn’t have the best food but does have the best climate, so if you’re like me and have to figure out exactly what weather is and how to deal with it, I am here to help*!
